There's was a time, way back in my journey as a professional photographer and artist, when everything just clicked!

About your Tutor

Hi I'm Celia Walmsley, professional photographer based in stunning Central Otago and Wellington.  

I've been photographing seriously for over 30 years (yes I started on film and darkroom) and been a full-time professional photographer for over 12 years with my company Stagebox Photography. 

Professionally I specialise in people photography including Weddings, Portraits, Branding, professional Ballet and Dance and teaching Photography Workshops.  Being based in Central Otago, Landscape and Dark Sky photography are my passions. 

I'm passionate about tutoring photography and helping you to get the best out of your camera and helping you create images that truly excite you.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts (Photography) and Certificate in Tertiary Teaching.

    You'll Learn

    This is a two-day workshop

    On day 1 we cover:

    • How light works
    • The principles of lighting
    • Types and sources of light
    • Understanding the colour of light
    • Across both days we examine a range of well known photographers' and how they used light and developed their signature style 
    • Using the light you have available
    • Natural vs artificial light
    • Natural and artificial lighting for stylised portraits 
    • Capturing the perfect light for stunning landscapes
    • At golden hour we head out to practice catching the rays of the setting sun for beautiful landscape photos

    On day 2 we cover:

    • Lighting set ups for artistic still life images, products, objects or flat-lays
    • 1 & 2 light set ups
    • Understanding and using main light, fill light, back light 
    • Using the light you have available
    • Reflectors & modifiers
    • Developing your own photography style.

    Please note: This workshop is about using the light sources you have available be it daylight, lamps, room light, window light, torches etc.
    We are not using expensive professional photographic studio lights and equipment in this workshop.
    We focus on creating beautiful images with lighting you have available.
