This workshop is about
Understanding and practicing with all those buttons on your good camera
Progressing from grabbing lucky shots in Auto mode to creating stunning, eye catching and even artistic images using the Semi-Auto and Manual features on your 'good' camera.
Understanding and putting into practive the fundamentals of photography including lighting, composition, focus, subject matter, gear, exposure, colour and tone.
(NB: This workshop is not about taking photos with cell phone cameras or cameras without any manual controls)
About your Tutor
Hi I'm Celia Walmsley, professional photographer based in stunning Central Otago and Wellington.
I've been photographing seriously for over 30 years (yes I started on film and darkroom) and been a full-time professional photographer for over 12 years with my company Stagebox Photography.
Professionally I specialise in people photography including Weddings, Portraits, Branding, professional Ballet and Dance and teaching Photography Workshops. Being based in Central Otago, Landscape and Dark Sky photography are my passions.
I'm passionate about tutoring photography and helping you to get the best out of your camera and helping you create images that truly excite you.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts (Photography) and Certificate in Tertiary Teaching.

WHAT WE COVER - Day 1 Level 1
How to:
- Understand the key buttons & menus on your camera
- Use Semi auto controls on your camera to elevate your photos quickly
- Understand Light and use it to instantly improve your images
- Get one subject in focus with a blurred background or everything in focus using Aperture Priority
- Focus on your subject using Depth of field
- Tricks for when you need to get the photo quick!
- Freeze action or create blurred movement with Time Priority
- Get pin-sharp focus
- Compose your image in camera to make it stand out from holiday snaps
- Do all this in practice with hands-on exercises
WHAT WE COVER Day 2 - Level 2
How to:
- Use Manual settings to make your images look more like art works than holiday snaps
- Take full control of your camera and use it to create what you want
- Create stunning photos in different genre e.g. portrait, landscape, sport, movement, family, events, indoors, night sky, street, flora & fauna
- Decide which Lenses to use for what you want to do
